Skylink Centre for Rural Development (SCRUDE) was founded in 2021 with a clear vision of contributing to the transformation of rural communities into resilient, empowered, and economically vibrant societies. The organization was established in response to the persistent challenges facing rural households, including poverty, food insecurity, climate variability, and limited access to sustainable livelihood opportunities.
From its inception, SCRUDE embraced a community-centered development philosophy grounded in the belief that local communities possess the knowledge, strengths, and potential necessary to drive their own progress when equipped with the right support, skills, and resources. The founders recognized that rural development requires integrated and practical solutions that address the interconnected social, economic, and environmental realities faced by communities.
SCRUDE began its work through grassroots engagements across Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay, and Narok Counties. Early interventions focused on community mobilization, farmer training, promotion of sustainable agriculture, women’s economic empowerment, and food security initiatives. These efforts helped build strong community relationships and laid a foundation for participatory and impact-driven programming.
Over time, SCRUDE has continued to refine its strategies to respond to emerging development priorities, particularly in the areas of climate resilience, livelihoods strengthening, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and women and youth empowerment. The organization’s growth has been shaped by continuous learning, collaboration with local stakeholders, and a commitment to scalable, sustainable solutions.
Today, SCRUDE remains dedicated to advancing inclusive rural development by empowering women-led and vulnerable households, strengthening livelihoods, and promoting climate-smart pathways to community resilience and long-term well-being.
